Ibn Qudāmah (rahimahullah) said:

The slave of Allāh must hold himself to account for every breath he takes and for the sins of his heart and limbs during every hour of the day. If an individual were to throw a stone into his house for every sin he commits, his house would be filled within a very short period of time. Yet he takes his sins lightly even though they are recorded by Allāh.

أَحْصَاهُ اللَّهُ وَنَسُوهُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيدٌ

Allāh has kept account of it while they have forgotten it. And Allāh is Witness over all things. (al-Mujādilah, 58:6)
