Sins Lead to Broken Friendships
عن أنس رضي الله عنه أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: ما توادَّ اثنانِ في اللهِ فيُفَرَّقُ بينهما إلَّا بذنْبٍ يُحْدِثُهُ أحدُهما
Anas ibn Mālik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) narrated that Allāh’s Messenger ﷺ said:
“No two people love each other for the sake of Allāh and then fall out except due to a sin one of them commits.”
[Al-Adab al-Mufrad of al-Bukhārī (no. 401), Albānī: Ṣaḥīḥ]
Al-Munāwī (rahimahullah) said in explanation of this ḥadīth:
“The punishment of separation happens due to the sin. This is why Mūsá al-Kāthim (rahimahullah) said: ‘If you see your friend change towards you, know that this is due to a sin that you have committed. So repent to Allāh from every sin and the love between you shall be rectified.’”
[Fayḍ al-Qadīr (no. 7879)]
