Eid: A Day of Joy, Gatherings and Forgiveness — Mufti ‘Abdul-‘Azīz āl al-Shaykh
The Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azīz āl al-Shaykh (hafidhahullah):
Eid is a good opportunity for mutual communication, pardoning and giving up one’s rights, visiting the sick, relieving those in hardship and to make it easy upon those who are in difficulty so that Eid can be a time of happiness and joy for everyone.
Indeed, the relationship of the believer with another believer is like the bricks of a building, each strengthens the other. Likewise, the Prophet ﷺ said:
مَثَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي تَوَادِّهِمْ وَتَرَاحُمِهِمْ وَتَعَاطُفِهِمْ، مَثَلُ الْجَسَدِ، إِذَا اشْتَكَى مِنْهُ عُضْوٌ، تَدَاعَى لَهُ سَائِرُ الْجَسَدِ بِالسَّهَرِ وَالْحُمَّى
“The example of the believers with regard to their mercy, love and compassion among themselves is that of one body; when any limb of it aches the whole body aches due to sleeplessness and fever.”
(al-Bukhari [no. 6011] and Muslim [no. 2586])
We must fear Allāh on the day of Eid. It is an opportunity for gatherings, keeping ties of kinship and removing hatred and animosity from the people so that we can be one nation as Allāh intended.
