Breaking the Fast Without a Valid Excuse

In a lengthy hadith, Abū Umāmah al-Bahili (radiyallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said regarding Jahannam:

I heard loud voices there. I asked: “What are these voices?” They said: “This is the screaming of the people of Hell.” Then, I was taken and saw people suspended from their ankles with the corners of their mouths torn and pouring with blood. I asked: “Who are these people?” They said: “These are the people who broke their fast before it was time to do so.”

Commenting on this hadith, Shaykh al-Albani said:

This is the punishment of the one who fasted then intentionally broke his fast before the time of breaking it. So, how will the circumstance be of the one who does not even fast in the first place? We ask Allah for safety and protection in this life and the hereafter.
